Love the mountain snow but take chains

The 6,000-foot mountains east of San Diego get snow several times a year. They didn’t have a white Christmas for 2014, but several inches of snow has fallen a few days later. Here’s the view from Mt. Laguna.

If you’re headed to the snow, Cuyamaca State Park is a popular option, especially the meadows off SR-79. Take chains. Head east on I-8 to the SR-79/Descanso exit and follow the signs to Julian/Cuyamaca.
