Great website, gents. I’m working my way through the weekend drives, but I’m not that familiar with the area. Have any suggestions for what/where someone from out of town could find a nice weekend trip?
I’m from the rural East Coast and I think it’d be great to spend two days bombing around some of the more scenic areas.
Hi, Gary. That’s a challenge. Two days… what are you looking for… beaches, mountains, city? I’d take one day for the old coast highway from Oceanside to Torrey Pines, then for day two, get on Interstate 8 and just head east to the desert. That will take you through the mountains, past a couple of Indian casinos, etc. Our mountains don’t have the trees that you do in the east and are very, very rugged at spots. Unfortunately, I don’t have my Interstate 8 drive posted online, but check out the Old Highway 80 story and this is what’s on the two-lane road that mostly parallels the freeway. If you take this, you probably won’t make it to the desert, so take the freeway out and the old highway back.
