I lived in Las Vegas for a few months many years ago. Living there is quite different than what tourists experience on the Strip and sometimes you just need to get away from the heat. Less than an hour away are the Spring Mountains and Mt. Charleston and a fun drive known as the Mt. Charleston Loop.
In the summer it’s mountain cool; in the winter, there’s snow and ski areas.
I tried pitching a travel story on this area to various editors over the years, but the reply was always the same… “Why does somebody want to leave Vegas?” Well, I’m not much of a gambler, drinker or party guy, so there’s a lot of reasons for me to leave Las Vegas.
