Leaf-peeper treat on the way to the desert

We do have the changing of the seasons in Southern California and on a damp, cold mountain day, the Cuyamaca oaks showed their color.

I was on the way to the desert today to do an upcoming Weekend Driver column for UT San Diego in this Mitsubishi Outlander SUV. To get to the desert from San Diego, you have to go through our 6,000-foot Laguna Mountains. My route went up through Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and outside the park’s fire station was this blaze of color.

So mark Nov. 1 as the high point of color in the park this year. Not bad in my book.
